xxxii, 750, (2, ads) pp. Recent full leather binding, ruled and decorated in gilt, five spine compartments with title in gilt over crimson morocco. First edition, first printing. Very Good. First five leaves filled-in along fore edge, as are a few terminals. Owner details at front, and London surgeon's ownership stamp several times throughout; Dr. George Charles Kernot M.D., L.D.S., surgeon and apothecary, who earned his diploma in dentistry contemporary to the time of publication. Early 20th century bookseller description of this book tipped-in to copyright page. Penciled marginal "X" with two textual underlines to dedication page. Ink numbering to illustrations on p. 598 with offsetting to facing page and verso. Occasional light smoke traces along top corner margins; a few corner creases and some light toning to pages. The very first publication of the illustrated medical anatomy text commonly referred to as Gray's Anatomy, preceding its American editions. It's been updated and revised many times over the past 160 years, but remains the standard reference work on the subject of human anatomy to this day. Item #180410004
