About Us

We're a general antiquarian bookshop in southeast Portland, Oregon, welcoming visitors by appointment only. We specialize in 20th Century literature and signed books.

Burnside Rare Books is owned by Rachel Phillips and Roger Hucek. They have been selling books together since 2006. Before selling books, Rachel worked at several libraries and earned a bachelor of arts in Set Design from Emerson College in Boston. Roger received writing degrees in from Oberlin and Emerson Colleges. Not long after that he inadvertently started in the trade at the now-defunct Wordsworth Books in Harvard Square.

Cataloguer Madeleine Moore joined the company in 2025.
