Bound in modern quarter calf with marbled paper sides, spine lettered in gilt. Very Good, moderate foxing toning, a few tiny tears and creases to folding plates. Provenance: John Spolman (ownership signature at head of chapter one).

English theologian Thomas Burnet's best-known work, a speculative cosmogony in which he postulates a Hollow Earth (long to resonate in science fiction after it had been disproven), which caused Noah's flood. It inspired Sir Isaac Newton and poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Item #140949476
