Angela Davis: An Autobiography

New York: Random House, 1974.

First edition, first printing. Signed by Angela Davis on the title page, "Yours in struggle — Angela Y. Davis, 09/20/75." x, [2], 400, [1] pp. Bound in publisher's red cloth stamped in blind on front board and lettered in black on spine. Near Fine with slight lean to spine and bumped extremities; binding a little shaken. In a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with light wear and toning. A very nice copy of the brilliant political activist's memoir, edited by Toni Morrison, who wrote in a memo to Random House senior editor Jim Silberman:

"Angela is the fiercest woman I have ever met and I come from a long line of fierce women. And I mean fierce literally not academically. Her hatreds are monumental and she has no sense of danger. Sometimes I think she cannot perceive it. She is also incredibly, phenomenally disciplined."

All of that comes through in this ionic memoir, written when Davis was not yet thirty. Item #140949433
