New York: The Mysterious Press, 1981.

A fantastic association copy of the first edition, limited issue. One of 750 copies, this one unnumbered and out of series, signed by King on limitation page tipped in at rear; signature smudged a little. Additionally inscribed by King on the front free endpaper to his secretary: "For Linda Montgomery — Thanks for pounding my Wang every weekday since February! 11/17/82." [xiv], 319, [1, colophon] pp. Bound in publisher's maroon cloth over beveled boards, elaborately stamped in gilt. Near Fine with light wear to extremities and very light spotting to upper textblock edge. In the original acetate wrapper, yellowed and clouded with soiling to rear panel and light edgewear; lacking the original slipcase. Ephemera related to provenance laid in. Brooks A13.2.

The limited edition of King's tale of a rabid Saint Bernard. He inscribed this copy and presented it to his secretary Linda Montgomery, who had been hired to type for King using his new Wang System 5 word processor — hence the joke in the inscription. A photocopy of his letter of reference is laid in, along with an original letter from Montgomery to the book's eventual recipient:

"Thank you for buying my book....Enjoy! You have the only book like this in the world." Item #140949361
