First American edition stated, first printing. Signed by Elie Wiesel on the half title page and inscribed to the former owner, "For Arthur - all best wishes [signed] Elie Wiesel Dec. 7 '72." Bound in publisher's black cloth with spine lettered in silver. Near Fine with light edge wear, faint foxing to edge of text block. Former owner's bookplate at front paste down with details written in blue pen at front free endpaper. Light offsetting and foxing to endsheets, a few spots of soiling throughout contents. In a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with edge wear, a small nick to the front flap and creasing along the bottom of the front panel. Wiesel's autobiographical novel about his experiences in Auschwitz and Buchenwald at the height of the Holocaust during World War II.
