Very Good+ with toning and light staining to spine, rubbing at extremities and slight bumping to corners. Toning to contents with the occasional age spot throughout, a few instances of underlining and notations in pencil. Capek's final novel, a satirical sci-fi critique of consumerism, colonialism and the rise of fascism with similar themes to his 1920 play R. U. R.. A cautionary work that mirrored the anxieties felt by Czechoslovakians who were witness to the rise of National Socialism in interwar Europe; uncommon in the original Czech. Bleiler pp. 117-118.
