Limited edition facsimile of the third edition of J. M. Dent's Le Mort D'Arthur, illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley. #367 of 1,000 numbered copies. xxxi, [1], 538 plus limitation page at rear, printed on ivory laid paper. Bound in publisher's black Niger goatskin with decorative gilt stamping, all edges gilt, black ribbon marker. Fine condition. Housed in a black cloth clamshell case, gilt-stamped leather title label to spine, with very light rubbing and some offsetting from book leather to paper lining. Sixteen-page booklet laid into interior pocket.

A beautiful reproduction of one of the most famous editions of The Death of Arthur, written by the 15th century knight Sir Thomas Malory and originally titled The Whole Book of King Arthur and of His Noble Knights of the Round Table. The British publisher J.M. Dent commissioned twenty-year-old Aubrey Beardsley to illustrate a luxurious serialized edition of the medieval classic in 1892, during the height of the Book Beautiful movement. The result made Beardsley a household name for the remainder of his short but brilliant life. Item #140949104
