Manifeste du Surrealisme: Poisson Soluble (Manifesto of Surrealism)

Paris: Editions du Sagittaire, 1924.

First edition, press copy with "S.P." for Service de Presse on the front cover. Signed by Andre Breton and inscribed to the journalist and literary critic Francois le Grix. An interesting association as Le Grix was renowned for discovering authors like George Bernanos and Francoise Sagan; he was also a fascist and was openly gay. 190, [2] pp., several pages unopened. Bound in publisher's orange wraps printed in black. Very Good+ with slight lean and several short tears to spine, moderate wear and toning to covers, and several small stains to rear cover. Small bookplate inside front cover, light toning to contents.

The first manifesto from the architect of Surrealism, which Breton defined as the expression of thought "in the absence of any control exercised by reason, exempt from any aesthetic or moral concern." A foundational text of the influential art movement. Item #140949019
