Bruccoli & Clark, Vol. 2 p. 14.

The first appearance of the acclaimed collection of modernist short stories centered around a small Ohio town, in much better than average condition. The book was published during the transitional period when jackets had been adopted but were disposable, intended only to protect the cloth before the sale. This jacket advertises Winesburg as a masterwork "in which people's very souls are bared." The legendary critic H.L. Mencken agreed: "It is so vivid, so full of insight, so shiningly life-like and glowing, that the book is lifted into a category all its own." Item #140948991
