The Hombre from Sonora

[New York]: Lenox Hill Press, 1971.

First edition, first printing. 192 pp. Bound in publisher's sage green cloth stamped in black. Near Fine with light rubbing to extremities, and small bump to upper corner of rear board. Narrow strip of residue from an old-style asphaultic dust jacket protector to upper and lower edges of boards and endpapers, ownership stamp to front pastedown. Light foxing to endpapers, dampstaining and ripple to pp. 131-140. In a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with light general toning and faint foxing and staining to flaps. Herron 15.

The crime author’s only Western, published under a pseudonym because he had another title coming out the same year. The publisher specialized in hardcover editions solely intended for libraries, so The Hombre from Sonora wasn't sold in bookstores upon its release, nor did it receive any critical attention. First editions are consequently scarce, and copies that have no library markings are especially sought-after by Willeford collectors. This copy belonged to another mystery writer, Bill Pronzini.
