A Day in the Life of Henry the Second (Early mimeograph typescript of the play The Lion in Winter)

New York: Studio Duplicating Service, Inc., 1964.

An early version of James Goldman's successful historical play The Lion in Winter. Set in 12th century medieval England, the play chronicles the tumultuous family life of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. It served as the basis for the Academy Award-winning film by the same name starring Peter O'Toole, Katherine Hepburn and a boyishly young Anthony Hopkins. Mimeographed typescript bound in flexible leatherette screw brad wraps stamped in gilt. Very Good with moderate wear, creasing to covers and slight crushing to corners. Foxing to edges; "Early Script for 'A Lion in Winter'" and number "4" written on title page, faint musty odor to contents. Dated June 1964. The name and address of Broadway producer Eugene Wolsk appears on the title page in type.

Goldman's play premiered on Broadway at the Ambassador Theatre in 1966 starring Robert Preston and Rosemary Harris, who won the Tony Award for her role as Eleanor. Item #140948681
