First edition. One of 500 sets of three books, The Inanimate Tragedy, The Evil Garden, and The Pious Infant. Each volume signed by Edward Gorey, (two signed as Mrs. Regera Dowdy, one of Gorey's anagrams) and inscribed to Anne and David [Bromer]. Anne and David were notable booksellers and friends of Gorey, who collaborated with him on two miniature books in the 1980s. Three volumes, bound in original printed side-stapled wraps and housed in publisher's envelope. All volumes Fine; envelope is Very Good, top flap split but mended with two small reinforcements at the inner fold, erased pencil to recto and light wear. An early Gorey collection; scarce signed.
