The play had opened in 1958 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre with Sidney Poitier as Walter Lee Younger (the brother), At this point Ossie Davis had replaced Poitier and the play had moved to the Belasco Theatre. Items signed by Hansberry are scarce; the playwright died at age 34 of pancreatic cancer. Item #140947613
