Foxing to upper edge of textblock. "Phil Andros" was the name Samuel Steward used when he began writing gay pornographic novels in the late 1960s. Stud was the first, published in 1966 after a Supreme Court ruling restricted the power of obscenity laws. Steward, entering his third career after spending a few decades as an English professor and tattoo artist, had previously been limited to publishing in European gay magazines.
