Bound in publisher's ribbed tan paper-covered boards lettered in red. Text in the original Spanish. Near Fine with light wear and rubbing to covers, indentation and bumped corner to fore edge of front board, and small bubble under paper on rear board. Very light toning to contents; color plates clean and bright. Juan Rulfo established his position as one of Mexico's greatest writers with just two works of fiction published in the 1950s, the novel Pedro Paramo and this book, the short story collection El Llano en llamas. The latter, translated as both The Burning Plain and The Plain on Fire, is an unflinching look at the lives of rural people on the barren Great Plain in the state of Jalisco. It is Mexico's most translated collection of short fiction and has gone through many editions in Spanish. The most popular story herein is "¡Diles que no me maten!" ("Tell Them Not to Kill Me!"). This special edition, printed in a run of 3,000 copies, was revised by the author and illustrated by his son.
