Bound in publisher's black and green cloth with gilt spine lettering. xxiii, 416 pp. Near Fine with slight slant to spine, light edgewear, small spot of soiling to front cover, and faint spotting to text block edges. Owner inscription dated 1951 written neatly in ink to front free endpaper, occasional penciled marginalia in same hand confined chiefly to first chapter. In Good dust jacket with short tears and creases along edges and flap fold lines, light spotting and toning, and tape reinforcement to jacket verso. The first appearance of this influential analysis of common themes in global mythology, which inspired Star Wars and 2001, among other popular works. Previously owned by UC Berkeley Professor Walter Edwin Rex III, a student at Harvard in 1951.
