San Francisco Gay Rave and Party Flyer Archive
[San Francisco]: [Various].
1990s to mid-2000s. An archive of roughly 643 San Francisco and Bay Area gay dance party and queer-adjacent, rave, hardcore, health/HIV, and non-profit/arts/theater, music flyers, handbills, and event postcards, plus some business cards/membership cards for bathhouse/queer spas or queer-related businesses and services (with the possibility of a small number being duplicates). Approximately 60 of the cards are non-SF/Bay Area-related, with many of those being approx. 30 postcards issued by German, French and Dutch AIDS awareness organizations and non-profits. A handful of cards are related to Southern California, New York, and a few other cities. Though items date from 1977 to 2018, the bulk of the collection appears to be 1990s to mid-2000s. From full-color, glossy die-cut cards to handmade photocopied handouts, the collection represents a wide range of queer culture and community in the Bay Area during the 1980s-2000s. Most range from Near Fine to Very Good, with occasional folding or creasing, edgewear, bumps, or small tears. A fantastic snapshot of queer culture during a transformative time.
