Gorillas in the Mist
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1983.
First edition, first printing. Signed by Dian Fossey on the half title page and inscribed to former owners. Very Good+ with significant lean to binding, light fading to spine ends. In a Very Good+ unclipped dust jacket with fading to spine panel, light edge and surface wear with nick to front joint. An account of Fossey's research of gorillas at the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda, which she founded on the cold, dark, extremely muddy slopes on the Virunga Volcanoes. A prominent primatologist and an inspiration to conservationists worldwide, it is thought that her opposition to poaching led to her brutal murder in 1985, two years after the publication of this book. The Karisoke Research Center carries on, to this day. This book served as the basis for the 1988 film of the same name, starring Sigourney Weaver.
