First American edition, and Dostoevsky's first publication in the United States. Bound in publisher's olive green cloth pictorially stamped in black and gilt. Very Good with lean and toning to spine with wear to spine ends, scratch and area of rubbing to rear cover. Former owner details to preliminary blank in pencil. Coated brown endsheets show brown strips (offsetting?) to front pastedown, pencil notation and two small punctures to rear pastedown. The London edition was published the same year as this, and was the first of any appearance of Dostoevsky in English. Item #140942468
