First edition, trade issue. Signed by Aime Cesaire on the half title, warmly inscribed in French to American translator and scholar of French literature Ellen Conroy Kennedy in Dakar in 1966. Kennedy later published a book of translations of the Negritude Poets, the movement Cesaire co-founded. 92, [2] pp. Wraps. Good+ with coffee splash stain to front wrap, Kennedy's light pencil notations in margins, light wear, spine creased and a little sunned. Cesaire was a poet, politician, and theoretician of post-colonialism who lived in the French-speaking isle of Martinique and was very influential in Francophone culture. Item #140941124
