A Russian novel first published in 1863 that created momentous change in that country throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, directly leading to the formation of a radical organization dubbed Land and Liberty, and inspiring generations of revolutionaries including Lenin, Kropotkin, Rosa Luxemburg, and Ayn Rand.
