The Killer Angels
New York: David McKay Company, 1974.
First edition. An intriguing inscription, dated 9/25/74: "Dear Guy, Thanks for the ideas in creating my most progressive work. Please allow me to dedicate my next piece to you. Very Best [signed] Michael Shaara." Fine in lightly worn dust jacket, near fine. A lovely copy, scarce signed in the year of publication. Rejected by fifteen different publishers before being accepted by small independent publishers David McKay, Shaara's second novel was a surprise success, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1975. It inspired the 1993 film Gettysburg and is widely regarded as one of the best civil war novels of all time.
