First edition, first printing. In publisher's blue cloth binding stamped in darker blue. Near Fine, with light lean to spine and evidence of bookplate removal from the front free end paper. In a Near Fine dust jacket with publisher's price intact though revised in pencil, light wear and light rubbing at the extremities, and a 1.5-inch split at the tail of the front flap fold; uncommon in such nice condition and with spine panel not sunned. A beautiful example of Highsmith's first novel, which served as the basis for a film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Item #180804012
