First edition, first printing, first state with no frontispiece. Very Good. Cloth lightly rubbed at extremities, soiled and with rubbing to decorative stamping. Front and rear inner hinge cracked but binding remains solid. Pages toned, lightly soiled. A satirical dictionary which Bierce worked on over the course of 30 years, publishing installments in magazines and newspapers. This is first half (letters A-L) gathered into book form, and would be published in a more complete version in 1911 titled The Devil's Dictionary. Item #180225008
