First edition, first printing, first issue, first state with gun embossed in gilt on front cover. Near Fine with very slight lean to spine, foxing to edge of page block and a small stain to the top edge. In a Near Fine dust jacket with slight shelf wear, publisher's price intact. A fantastic copy, with very bright gilt. housed in a custom folding case. According to the publisher's archive, a mere 940 copies (from an original print run of a whopping 82,000) were blocked in gilt. The design was quickly scrapped in favor of a more economical plain front cover, as the amount of gilt required for the golden pistol was rather cost-prohibitive. Gilbert A13a, 1.1. Item #180216020
