First edition. Bound in publisher's primary binding of cream cloth, stamped in black, with white end papers printed in red and dated May 9th, 1876 (copies also appeared as May 20th and June 3rd). Good, overall a bit worn. Cloth rubbed and soiled, darkened at spine, worn heavier at corners and spine ends, and lifted from the boards. Light lean to binding. Bookseller stamp to front free end paper. Pages are toned, and show an occasional age-related stain. The author's fifth novel. Item #170425007
