First edition. The first two volumes of a series of six. Covers rubbed, spines darkened and a bit stained, worn at extremities (especially foot of Vol. 1) and along edges with exposed tips. Gift inscription on both volumes' title pages. Vol. 1 cover splitting along gutter but binding intact. A disorganized, beautifully-illustrated, bewildering array of observations on Native North Americans commissioned by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
