[viii], 295 pp. Bound in publisher's light green cloth with gilt lettering blocked in black to spine. Near Fine with typical fading to cloths. Hemingway was well established when his fictionalized African travelogue was published, and his book was exquisitely illustrated by Scribner's in-house artist Edward Shenton. Critical reception was mixed, and C. G. Poore wrote in the New York Times: "In "Green Hills of Africa" his writing is better than ever, fuller, richer, deeper and only looking for something that can use its full power. There should soon be rousing calls demanding that he go to work on a novel of vast and striking scope instead of wasting time calling shots on the kudu."
