Philip Guston

New York: George Braziller, Inc., 1980.

First edition, first printing. Signed by Philip Guston and inscribed on the title page in black ink, "For Richard what a job! on Mother & Child - many many thankyous Philip Guston." Unfortunately we don't know who the inscribee was. 151pp. Bound in publisher's wraps. Very Good condition, wraps lightly toned, with very light wear to the extremities, a little curling and one crease to the upper corner of the front wrap, offsetting to rear endpaper.

Inscribed in the last year of the artist's life, the inscription refers to his painting "Mother and Child" which is plate number 1 of this catalog and is reproduced in color. Guston, along with artists Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, were part of the "New York School" of painters, poets, and musicians who were active in the 1950's and '60's. Item #140949471
