A rare account of the First Vatican Council, convened by Pope Pius IX in 1869. The author was an Italian politician (1829-1906) who wrote under the pseudonym Pomponio Leto after Italian philosopher Julius Pomponius Laetus who was also known as Giulio Pomponio Leto.
