Watts... After

Aquora, CA: Pad Library, 1967.

First edition. Signed by famous director and pulp author Ed Wood on the title page in the year of publication, inscribed "Private collection of Edw. D. Wood Jr. 3/16/67." 191, [1] pp. Bound in publisher's illustrated wraps. Very Good+, front wrap opens a little freely, contents toned with age.

A scarce signature from the director of the infamous Plan 9 from Outer Space, whose prodigious, lurid sleaze output later in life was not exactly fodder for formal book signings. Tim Burton directed a 1994 biopic of him, Ed Wood, starring Johnny Depp and Martin Landau, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of an aging Bela Lugosi. This novel is a sequel to Wood's riotsploitation book Watts-- The Difference about an interracial couple.

This copy from Ed Wood's personal library, via the estate of his sole legal widow, Kathleen O'Hara Wood. Kathy Wood passed away in 2006, leaving her estate to neighbor and friend Robert H. Blackburn and Robert J. Weinberg, her personal entertainment lawyer and friend. This book is one of a handful that Ed and Kathy entrusted to their good friend David Ward prior to their eviction from 6383 Yucca in Hollywood, CA on Dec. 7, 1978. Ed passed away from a heart attack three days later. The books ended up with Kathy Wood and were loaned to Rudolph Grey who in the 1980s was writing an oral biography of Ed Wood Jr. The books were returned to Kathy in the mid-1990s and she kept them until her passing in 2006. The books were then divided between her two heirs. With a signed note of authenticity from Robert Blackburn. Item #140945864
