The Burnt Orange Heresy

New York: Crown Publishers, 1971.

First edition. Signed by Charles Willeford on the dedication page and inscribed in the year of publication to his colleague in the English Department at Miami Dade Community College, Eva Williams, a friend with whom he shared an office wall. Willeford writes, "To my old buddy, office companion, and erstwhile crying towel, Eva Williams-- with love, affection, and fond remembrance of older days in darker, danker corridors of the mind & soul - Love - [signed] Charles Willeford Oct 6, 1971."

Also laid in is a mailed postcard from Willeford to Williams dated August 30, 1972 from the Hickory Bar-B-Q #1 in Fort Myers, Florida with two little jokes, as well as a short note from Williams' daughter, Ruth.

190 pp. Bound in publisher's reddish orange cloth, spine lettered in silver. Very Good with some reading wear in a Very Good worn dust jacket. A great association copy that showcases Willeford's sense of humor. An art-themed crime novel by the writer best-known for his later breakout novel Miami Blues, after decades of toiling in obscurity with darkly humorous books like this one. It was made into a film co-starring Mick Jagger in 2019. Item #140945848
