First edition. [viii], 266 pp. Bound in publisher's black cloth with red and white spine lettering. Near Fine, slightly over-opened front hinge, very faint stain to bottom edge, in a Very Good+ dust jacket with no fading, rubbed and a little worn along edges, unclipped ($3.50).

The reclusive Black author's debut, a coming of age novel about a young man enmeshed in gangs and drug dealing pre-Civil Rights-era. Simmons was a member of the Watts Writer's Workshop. After the 1962 follow-up, Man Walking on Eggshells, he published no more books. Item #140945553
