Chymisches Cabinet derer gossen Geheimnussen der Natur durch wohl ersonnene sinnreiche Kupfferstiche und Emblemata... (Atalanta Fugiens)
Frankfurt: Georg Heinrich Oehrling, 1708.
First edition in German. [4], 153 pp. With 50 half-page engraved emblematic illustrations. Bound in period vellum, spine lettered in gilt. Very Good, normal discoloration to vellum; old ink notes in German on front endpaper and in margin of title page, expected modest foxing and aging within; still an exceptional, complete copy in a contemporary binding, rarely found thus. First German language edition, and third printing overall, of Atalanta Fugiens, the most famous illustrated work of Alchemy. A book of 50 emblems, each with a motto, a detailed copper engraving, epigrammatic verse, a musical fugue, and an explanation of its alchemical significance. A fantastically illustrated, important work.
