Fast One
New York: Doubleday Doran and Company, 1933.
First edition. [x], 304 pp. Bound in publisher's gray cloth with crimson lettering. Very Good with toning to spine,a few scuffs to cloth, wear and a small stain at foot, small stain and name written on front free endpaper in pencil, front hinge a bit free, a few reading smudges. Lacking jacket. Arguably this is magnetic north of hard-boiled fiction, fast-paced and very violent, hailed by none other than Raymond Chandler. "Paul Cain" was the pseudonym of George Carrol Sims; he used "Peter Ruric" for his screenwriting. This was his only novel, composed of stories he wrote for the legendary magazine Black Mask in 1931-1932.
