Laugh Literary and Man the Humping Guns (Complete Run)

Los Angeles: Laugh Literary, 1969.

Complete run. Vol. 1 Issues 1-3. First issue signed on verso of front cover in sharpie by Charles Bukowski. Bound in publisher's yellow and orange stapled wraps. Near Fine overall, second issue wraps a little soiled, slight roll to spine. Quite rare signed.

This short-lived literary magazine was essentially Charles Bukowski's manifesto of the "Meat Poets"-- a mimeo'd journal of poetry with his brief editorial screed on the front cover attacking the bigwigs of the Black Mountain school. Fellow contributors include John Thomas, William Wantling, T.L. Kryss, Gerda Penfold, Douglas Blazek, and a few other kindred spirits. Originally Bukowski wanted to have the title read Man the Fucking Guns, which is much more clear in meaning, but was told by Cherkovski it would be seized as obscene by authorities if he left it that way, which is quite plausible. A high spot of '60s rebel poetry. Item #140943830
