The first book publication of an essay that first appeared in the magazines Horizons in the UK and The New Republic in the US, "Printed as a Christmas Keepsake for the Typophiles" according to the title page. It has inspired nearly as many writers as Orwell's famous novels, as a concise statement of a marriage of both linguistic and political principles.
