The Jamaican-American writer's first book, a self-published attack on racist ideas about Black people in the form of a series of fictional dialogues. He would go on to become the editor of Marcus Garvey's newspaper Daily Negro Times and one of the best-known advocates of "The Great Black Man" theory of history. Fiercely independent, he was self-educated, his many works all self-financed and self-published.
