(Anti-colonialism) BUST THE CABORA BASSA DAM

London: The Dam Busters Committee, [1970s].

Color printed poster measuring 22.5" x 32". Very Good with vertical crease, a few short tears and chips to edges. Hoover Institute Political Poster Database UK 3824. Apparently a variant by the South African ANC also exists.

A striking image of the anti-colonial struggle in southern Africa, with an armed soldier and a map of Mozambique showing the power line to South Africa, arrows showing fighters coming from neighboring countries. Includes slogans in French and German. The Dam Busters Committee sought to discourage British investment in the dam, then proposed to be built in Mozambique, at the time still a Portuguese colony. FRELIMO, the anti-colonial revolutionary group in Mozambique, supported the movement to stop the dam. Its purpose was to provide electricity for South Africa, then controlled by the apartheid government. Ultimately, the movement failed and the dam was built. Item #140942363
