Soulcraft (35 Issues)

Noblesville, IN: Soulcraft, 1950-1951.

35 issues or "discourses" in total, broken run. Discourses #4, 5, 7-17, 20, 21, 26-31, 33-40, 42-47. Publisher's staple-bound wraps. Near Fine overall with light toning, occasional staple rust, a little curling around spines, faint coffee stains to front wraps of discourses #12 and #27; generally very bright and clean.

The final endeavor of William Dudley Pelley along his unbelievable lifelong trajectory to obscurity: popular author, Hollywood screenwriter, New Age guru, fascist paramilitary group leader, prisoner of the American government during WWII, UFO cult leader. This would be his obscure quasi-Christian/ New Age/ UFO journal, Soulcraft, through which he networked with the early UFO contactee movement that included a number of his chums from far right and occult circles like George Hunt Williamson and George Adamski. As with all his publications, the design of the periodical is surprisingly elegant and informed by the Arts & Crafts movement. The political content of this journals is minimal; Pelley and his co-authors mainly concern themselves with goings on on the astral plane. An uncommon view of the early UFO era that was very out-of-step with the times but nonetheless illustrates the debt it owed to earlier New Age thought well. Item #140941447
