A lock of Richard Brautigan's hair that he sent to his girlfriend

[San Francisco]: [Richard Brautigan], 1968.

Richard Brautigan and Susan Morgan dated on and off from about January to June in 1967, the year Brautigan's breakthrough novella Trout Fishing in America was published. During that time, Brautigan wrote several poems to Morgan, the first poem of which he gave her a typed signed copy of. Later, Morgan found second poem in Brautigan's desk written to her which she had not been given a copy of. In 1968, she wrote Brautigan asking for a signed copy of that poem, though by then he had destroyed it. At the same time, she asked him to send her a lock of his hair, and he complied, sending it with a letter. Half of that lock was sold with Brautigan's original letter to a collector in 2005. Being offered here is the other half of that lock which is accompanied by a typed signed letter from Morgan explaining the story of the lock. Also included is a photocopy of the original letter Brautigan sent Morgan with his hair. The letters are lightly worn and folded in thirds. Item #140941147
