Action at World's End
New York: E.P. Dutton & Company, Inc., 1945.
First edition. 222 pp. Publisher's red cloth lettered in gilt. Near Fine with a little foxing to fore edge and endpapers, in Very Good+ dust jacket, spine panel darkened, small chip near foot, a little dust-soiled and worn.
A WWII novel by an American author who specialized in the sub-sub-genre of "invasion" literature: thrillers like his 1943 novel Invasion! about subversion and conquest of America by the Japanese with more than a little racism thrown in for good measure. This very rare follow-up novel has a similar theme of Japanese agents and American turncoats plotting an attack on the USA, but its uncredited jacket artwork has a much more subtle juxtaposition of a nighttime romantic interlude about to be interrupted by a Japanese machine-gunner on the beach, while a towheaded dope watches him in mute disbelief from the spine panel.
