First edition. Ads dated September 1854; no priority as per BAL 20106. Map has faint S.W. Chandler & Bro. imprint. 357, 8 [ads] pp. with map facing p. 307. Publisher's blind-stamped brown cloth with gilt lettering to spine, original yellow endpapers. A Fine copy with no restoration or work done, completely unsophisticated and desirable thus. Bright gilt (even the "S" that extends into the gutter); sharp and distinct blindstamping to cloth with very light rubbing; head and foot a little worn. Contents clean with hardly any foxing, a few slightly proud signatures but binding sturdy. Housed in a custom slipcase. A truly excellent copy of the classic nature study. Item #140939540
