Leonard Duncan Albert Hussey the meteorologist on Ernest Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Arctic Expedition 1914-1917, well liked for his banjo playing that kept the crew entertained. Before the Endurance sank, Shackleton sent a party to retrieve Hussey's banjo from the ship. Such was the importance of its "vital mental medicine," as Shackleton called it, to the men's morale. Hussey accompanied Shackleton on his last voyage to Antarctica and was with him when he died. Item #140938846
