London: Printed by Geo. James, and sold by Maurice Atkins, 1712.
First edition in English. [x], 218, [2, Instructions to Binders] pp. with 32 folding plates after designs by Alexandre Le Blond. Full contemporary paneled calf, red spine label lettered in gilt. Very Good with all plates present and in nice shape. Calf chipped at head, a bit stained and edge-worn; front hinge a bit free but holding. Two bookplates on paste down next to lightly penciled bookseller notes and tree doodles. Contents generally bright with little foxing; a few corner creases, closed tear to first folding plate. A text that would be called "the Bible of the French garden," published anonymously in 1709 and then (again anonymously) in English for the first time three years later. Its many folding plates show truly elegant symmetrical landscape designs. Item #140938179
